Multiple Newport-Mesa Schools Recognized for High Achievement in Student Success

Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) is proud to announce seven schools recognized as California Honor Roll Schools by the Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE). The seven NMUSD schools recognized this year include Anderson Elementary, Davis Elementary, Early College High, Killybrooke Elementary, Newport Harbor High, Newport Heights Elementary, Paularino Elementary.

The Honor Roll program is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and highlight successful practices that improve outcomes for students. After an extensive analysis of student data for every public school and district in California, these schools have been identified as clear leaders in getting students to grade-level.

This is the first year that Anderson, Davis and Newport Heights Elementary Schools and Newport Harbor High School have been recognized in the program. Paularino Elementary has been recognized the past two years and Early College High School has been recognized since 2015.

The Honor Roll recognizes public elementary, middle and high schools that demonstrate consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduction in achievement gaps. For high schools, Honor Roll recognition also includes high student college readiness.

“We have phenomenal schools, led by remarkable teachers and administrators who continually work toward every student reaching their full potential,” said NMUSD Superintendent Dr. Fred Navarro. “It’s wonderful to see their efforts get recognized through this data-driven awards program,” he said.

Through national research, the ERP identified a common set of success factors in higher performing Honor Roll schools. These include clear, specific learning objectives aligned to college and career readiness, evidence-based instructional practices, investment in human capital, maintenance of data and assessment systems to monitor school and student performance, and deploying resources and guidance to support schools’ efforts to prepare all students for college and career.
