NMSF award winner

Newport-Mesa Unified School District is pleased to announce that the 2021 Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation (NMSF) Grants to Teachers program (although all staff is eligible to apply) awarded nearly 80 grants. In total, the grants awarded this year were more than $80,000 districtwide.

Grants are awarded on a yearly basis and are valued at $1,000 for individual entries or $3,000 for group entries. Grant applications include an overview of how the purchase or production of materials will benefit programs and projects that are creative, innovative, and meet student needs. The selection process is managed by the foundation board of directors and community volunteers. Grant applications are reviewed and judged on the quality of the plan, implementation of objectives, benefits to students, number of students the proposed plan will serve, and an accurate budget for the requested plan.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 40 years of continued support of our wonderful teachers and students!” said Cathy Bybee, NMSF board president. “We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those all who make this initiative possible,” She said.

The foundation's continued efforts have contributed more than $7 million dollars to Newport-Mesa schools.

Previously, grant recipients were honored at an awards banquet hosted by the foundation. This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the recipients were each personally presented with their grant awards by foundation board members, school board members, and donors in their respective school zone sites.

The Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation was established in 1981 with a focus on raising funds to distribute grants in support of student programs and special curriculum needs. The Grants to Teachers program is funded through various fundraising efforts, membership donations, and support from local communities, families, and businesses.
